Subject: | Accelerator Pedal Disengagement (Re-Install Accelerator Pedal Pivot Pin) |
Models: | 1999 Chevrolet Camaro |
1999 Pontiac Firebird |
with 3.8 L Engine (VIN K -- RPO L36) |
The accelerator pedal may become disengaged from the accelerator pedal rod.
The pivot pin that attaches the accelerator pedal to the accelerator pedal rod may have disengaged. The disengaged pin may be lying on top of the vehicle's carpeting.
To obtain higher pin to pedal retention, the pin should be re-installed to the pedal, spring, and rod assembly using the revised orientation stated below. If a new pedal is to be installed, verify that the pivot pin is installed in the revised orientation. Otherwise, remove the pivot pin and reinstall in the revised orientation as stated below.
Important: The spring (3) is positioned to the RIGHT of the accelerator pedal rod (4) (if the technician is seated in the driver seat facing forward).
No parts are required. Pivot pins are not available as a separate service part.
