Condition

The accelerator pedal may become disengaged from the accelerator pedal rod.

Cause


Object Number: 622041  Size: SF

The pivot pin that attaches the accelerator pedal to the accelerator pedal rod may have disengaged. The disengaged pin may be lying on top of the vehicle's carpeting.

Correction

To obtain higher pin to pedal retention, the pin should be re-installed to the pedal, spring, and rod assembly using the revised orientation stated below. If a new pedal is to be installed, verify that the pivot pin is installed in the revised orientation. Otherwise, remove the pivot pin and reinstall in the revised orientation as stated below.

Re-Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 622044  Size: MF

    Important: The spring (3) is positioned to the RIGHT of the accelerator pedal rod (4) (if the technician is seated in the driver seat facing forward).

  1. Assemble the accelerator pedal (2) and the spring (3) to the accelerator pedal rod (4).
  2. Insert the pivot pin (1) from the LEFT to right direction (if the technician is seated in the driver seat facing forward) through the accelerator pedal (2), the accelerator pedal rod (4) and the spring (3).
  3. Verify that the pivot pin (1) is fully seated in the accelerator pedal (2).
  4. Verify proper operation of the accelerator pedal assembly.
  5. Verify proper operation of the control system.
