Engine Block Valley Cover Cleaning and Inspection F Car


    Object Number: 490851  Size: SH

    Important: Do not reuse the valley cover knock sensor oil seals. Install NEW oil seals during assembly.

    Do not reuse the valley cover gasket. Install a NEW gasket during assembly.

  1. Remove the knock sensor oil seals (1) from the valley cover (2).
  2. Clean the valley cover in solvent.
  3. Caution: Wear safety glasses in order to avoid eye damage.

  4. Dry the valley cover with compressed air.
  5. Inspect the gasket sealing surfaces for excessive scratches or gouging. Refer to Replacing Engine Gaskets .
  6. Inspect the valley cover oil seal bores for excessive scratches or gouging.

    Important: Do not reuse the valley cover knock sensor oil seals. Install NEW oil seals during assembly.

  1. Remove the knock sensor oil seals (1) from the valley cover (2).

  2. Object Number: 668800  Size: SH
  3. Remove the bolts (1), baffle cover (2), and baffle (3) from the valley cover (4) - LS6.
  4. Clean the valley cover components in solvent.
  5. Caution: Wear safety glasses in order to avoid eye damage.

  6. Dry the components with compressed air.
  7. Inspect the gasket sealing surfaces for excessive scratches or gouging.
  8. Inspect the oil seal bores for excessive scratching or gouging.
  9. Inspect the ventilation tube for a loose fit or restrictions - LS6.
  10. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  11. Install the baffle (3), baffle cover (2) and bolts (1) to the valley cover (4) - LS6.
  12. Tighten
    Tighten the baffle cover bolts to 5 N·m (44 lb in).
