J 25588 Side Bearing Shim Installer
Do not pry on the bearing cap parting surfaces.
Important: Group the shims together with the original installed location labeled. If you remove or replace the ring and pinion gearset, perform the bearing preload, backlash, and tooth contact pattern test in order to ensure proper contact of the gears. If you reinstall or replace the differential carrier without replacing any other component, e.g. pinion and ring gear set, bearings, etc., then you may reinstall the carrier with the original shims in the original locations. Always perform a gear tooth contact pattern check, even if only removing the carrier.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
Tighten
Tighten the differential bearing cap bolts to 75 N·m (55 lb ft).
