Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 318913  Size: MH
  1. Open the hood.
  2. Notice: Apply pressure only at the end of the liftgate/hood assist rod that you are removing or attaching. Do NOT apply pressure to the middle of the rod because damage or bending will result.

  3. Using a flat bladed tool, pry out the clip (6).
  4. Pull the assist rod (7) from the strut stud (1).
  5. Remove the hood open assist rod (7) from the strut stud.
  6. Remove the hood hinge bolts (3) from the hood hinges (4).
  7. Remove the hinge bracket nuts (1) from the hood hinges (4).
  8. With help from an assistant, remove the hood (2) from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the hood (2) to the vehicle, with an assistant.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the hinge bracket nuts (1) to the hood hinges (4).
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the nuts to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).

  5. Install the hood hinge bolts (3) to the hood hinges (4).
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).

  7. Install the hood open assist rod (7) to the strut stud (1).

  9. Close the hood (2) slowly.
  10. Inspect the clearance between the following components:
  11. • The hood (2)
    • The front fenders
    • For Pontiac vehicles only, the headlamp opening doors
  12. Inspect the alignment of the hood (3). Refer to Alignment Checking in Frame and Underbody.
  13. Adjust the hood as needed. Refer to Hood Adjustment .
