Tools Required
Removal Procedure
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
- Remove the rear axle shaft. Refer to
Rear Axle Shaft Replacement
.
Important: Use care when removing the bearing oil seal. Lever against steel case
of the seal only in order to avoid damage to the rear axle housing.
- Place a pry bar behind the steel case of the seal (3). Use the
pry bar in order to carefully remove the rear wheel bearing seal from
the rear axle housing (2).
- Assemble the J 22813-A
to the J 2619-O1
.
- Insert the tool into the
bore.
Position the tool behind the rear wheel bearing so that
the tangs on the tool engage the bearing outer race.
- Using the J 22813-A
and the J 2619-O1
,
remove the rear wheel bearing.
- Remove the tool.
Installation Procedure
- Lubricate the new rear
wheel bearing (1) with synthetic gear lubricant, GM P/N 12378261
(Canadian P/N 10953455) or equivalent.
- Assemble the J 23765
to the J 8092
.
- Using the J 23765
(1) and theJ 8092
, install the rear wheel bearing.
Ensure that the
tool shoulder is flush against the rear axle housing.
- Lubricate the new rear
axle oil seal inner diameter with synthetic gear lubricant, GM P/N
12378261 (Canadian P/N 10953455) or equivalent.
- Position the rear wheel bearing seal onto the J 23771
.
- Using the J 23771
, direct the bearing seal into the housing bore.
- Install the rear wheel bearing seal into place.
Ensure
that the rear wheel bearing seal face is flush with the axle tube.
- Install the rear axle shaft. Refer to
Rear Axle Shaft Replacement
.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Road test and inspect for correct operation of the rear axle.
