BEGINNING LATE 1982, CHEVROLET THM 350 TRANSMISSIONS WERE BUILT WITH THE CURRENT DESIGN THM 250 SUN GEAR SHELL AND THRUST WASHER. THE CURRENT DESIGN THM 250 SUN GEAR SHELL CAN BE IDENTIFIED BY THE PRESENCE OF SIX (6) CIRCULAR HOLES IN THE HOUSING; WHILE THE THM 350 SUN GEAR SHELL HAS NO HOLES. IF THE SUN GEAR SHELL AND/OR SUN GEAR SHELL THRUST WASHER IS REPLACED ON ANY THM 350 TRANSMISSION, BE CERTAIN TO DO THE FOLLOWING: 1.IDENTIFY THE DESIGN OF THE SUN GEAR SHELL (THM 250 OR THM 350). 2.IF THE SUN GEAR SHELL IS THM 250 DESIGN USE PART NUMBER 8640717 FOR SUN GEAR SHELL 8640718 FOR SUN GEAR SHELL THRUST WASHER 3.IF THE SUN GEAR SHELL IS THM 350 DESIGN USE PART NUMBER 1241726 FOR SUN GEAR SHELL 1241725 FOR SUN GEAR SHELL THRUST WASHER PLEASE BE ADVISED THAT IF ANY OF THE ABOVE THM 250 PARTS AND THM 350 PARTS ARE INTERCHANGED, INCORRECT END PLAY WILL RESULT. IF FOR ANY REASON THE ABOVE THM 350 DESIGN PARTS ARE NOT AVAILABLE FOR SERVICE WHEN REQUIRED, YOU MAY REPLACE BOTH PARTS WITH THE THM 250 DESIGN.
