BROKEN A/C CONDENSER PIPE (NEW PART)

Model and Year: 1989 B CAR WITH 5.0L (LO3) AND 5.7L (LO5) WITH AIR CONDITIONING

TO: ALL CHEVROLET DEALERS

Some of the above vehicles may experience a broken pipe on the A/C condenser. This is caused by the pipe and hose assembly from the compressor to the condenser being too short and stiff. This causes strain and flexing of the condenser pipe by compressor vibrations and engine roll, resulting in the broken pipe at the condenser.

This condition may be addressed by installing a new pipe and hose assembly, P/N 10145106 from the compressor to the condenser. This new part is longer in length with a downward orientation of the pipe at the compressor. This forces a partial loop in the hose and results in lower strain and flexing of the condenser pipe. This new pipe entered production on June 13, 1989 at the Lakewood Plant. Vehicles built prior to the following VIN #KA154651 are affected and a production date of June 20, 1989, for this part went into effect at the Arlington Plant. Vehicles built prior to the following VIN #KR225904 are affected.

Use applicable labor operations and time.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
