STEERING WHEEL RETURNABILITY STEERING GEAR VALVE ASSEMBLY

Subject: STEERING WHEEL RETURNABILITY

Model and Year: 1991 CAPRICE

TO: ALL CHEVROLET DEALERS

Condition:

On 1991 B-cars assembled prior to VIN breakpoint MW141646, comments may be received on slower steering wheel returnability, particularly during a low speed right turn maneuver.

Cause:

Incorporation of air bag restraint system into vehicle steering wheel results in off-center mass distribution.

Correction:

Replace existing power steering gear valve assembly with applicable assembly noted below by suspension level and set vehicle caster to 3.5 +/- 1.0 degrees following Service Manual procedures.
