INADEQUATE WINDSHIELD DEFROST (INSTALL REVISED GRILL)

Subject: INADEQUATE WINDSHIELD DEFROSTER PERFORMANCE

Model and Year: 1991 CAPRICE

Condition: Inadequate windshield defroster performance.

Cause: Inadequate air flow to the base of the windshield.

Correction: Install revised defroster grille.

Information and Part Numbers:

The clean VIN breakpoint should be any vehicle built on or after May 6, 1991. However, some vehicles built before this date may have the revised defroster grille. The revised grille may be identified by the vertical vanes measuring 12 mm (15/32") in height versus 5 mm (9/32") on the older grille.

The build date is located on a label on the rear of the left hand door. The following is a list of the revised Defroster Grille Assembly part numbers by usage and color.

Parts are expected to be available on June 17, 1991. Until then normal part orders will not be accepted by GMSPO. Only verifiable emergency VIP orders will be accepted. SPO will make every effort to obtain parts. All parts will be placed on 400 control to waive VIP surcharges. However, the part will be shipped premium transportation at dealer's expense. All other order types will be cancelled as incorrectly ordered while the 400 control is in place.
