THIS BULLETIN CANCELS AND SUPERSEDES DEALER SERVICE BULLETIN NO. 92-249-5, DATED AUGUST 1992. THE VIN HAS BEEN CORRECTED. ALL COPIES OF 92-249-5 SHOULD BE DISCARDED.
Some owners of 1992 B-car sedans with JA2 brakes may comment on a "clicking" type noise coming from the rear brakes during apply.
------ Improper machining creates a "thread like" pattern on the drum braking surface which causes the brake shoes to move out in the drum and then "click or slap" back on the backing plate.
----------- As of the following VIN breakpoints, a new brake drum was released for production on all sedans with JA2 brakes. This drum has a revised surface finish to reduce "shoe slap" on drum brakes. If a vehicle is found with this condition, REPLACE BOTH brake drums with the new P/N 1244646.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
