Removal Procedure

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to

    Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  2. If the vehicle is equipped with a mechanical fan, remove the fan belt from the tensioner. Use a 13 mm wrench in order to rotate the tensioner pulley clockwise while sliding the fan belt from the tensioner pulley.
  3. If the vehicle is equipped with a mechanical fan, remove the fan belt from the pulleys.
  4. If the vehicle is equipped with a mechanical fan, remove the radiator outlet pipe nuts at the air conditioning compressor. Refer to Radiator Hose Replacement in Engine Cooling.
  5. Raise and suitably support the vehicle, if equipped with a mechanical fan. Refer to General Information.
  6. Remove the serpentine drive belt from the tensioner. Use a 9/16 in. off-set wrench in order to rotate the tensioner pulley clockwise while sliding the serpentine drive belt from the tensioner pulley.
  7. Remove the serpentine drive belt from the accessory pulleys.
  8. Clean the serpentine drive belt surfaces.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the serpentine drive belt to the accessory pulleys.
  2. Install the serpentine drive belt to the tensioner.
  3. Ensure that the drive belt is aligned into proper grooves of the accessory drive pulleys.
  4. Lower the vehicle.
  5. Install the radiator outlet pipe nuts at the air conditioning compressor, if the radiator outlet pipe nuts have been removed. Refer to Radiator Hose Replacement in Engine Cooling.
  6. Install the fan belt to the tensioner, if the fan belt has been removed.
  7. Connect the negative battery cable.
