Fuel Tank Heat Shield Wagon Only

Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to General Vehicle Lifting and Jacking in General Information.

  2. Object Number: 73000  Size: SH
  3. Remove the fuel tank shield bolts.

  4. Object Number: 73003  Size: SH
  5. Remove the shield from the right-hand frame rail.

  6. Object Number: 73000  Size: SH
  7. Remove the shield from the left-hand frame rail.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 73003  Size: SH
  1. Position the shield to the right-hand frame rail.

  2. Object Number: 73000  Size: SH
  3. Position the shield to the left-hand frame rail.
  4. Install the bolts.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 6 N·m (53 lb in).

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  6. Lower the vehicle.

Fuel Tank Heat Shield W/Exhaust Pipe Shield; Sedan

Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to General Vehicle Lifting and Jacking in General Information.

  2. Object Number: 72974  Size: SH
  3. Remove the bolts from the right-hand fuel tank front shield.
  4. Remove the shield, if equipped.

  5. Object Number: 72977  Size: SH
  6. Remove the bolts from the left-hand fuel tank front heat shield.
  7. Remove the shield, if equipped.

  8. Object Number: 72979  Size: SH
  9. Remove the bolts from the right-hand exhaust pipe front heat shield and the right-hand fuel tank heat shield.
  10. Remove the connected shields from the underbody.

  11. Object Number: 72981  Size: SH
  12. Remove the bolts from the left-hand exhaust pipe front heat shield and left-hand fuel tank heat shield.
  13. Remove the connected shields from the underbody.
  14. Remove the bolts connecting the shields.
  15. Remove the nuts from the shields.
  16. Remove the shields.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 72979  Size: SH
  1. Install the nuts to the shields.
  2. Install the shields.
  3. Install the shields to each other with bolts.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 1.9 N·m (17 lb in).

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure.   5. Position the assembled shields and the shields to the underbody.
  6. Install the exhaust pipe heat shield bolts.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 1.9 N·m (17 lb in).


    Object Number: 72987  Size: SH
  8. Install the right-hand fuel tank front shield to the right-hand exhaust pipe front heat shield and the right-hand fuel-tank heat shield.

  9. Object Number: 72991  Size: SH
  10. If equipped, install left-hand fuel tank front shield to the exhaust pipe front heat shield and the left-hand fuel tank heat shield.
  11. Install the bolts.
  12. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 1.9 N·m (17 lb in).

  13. Lower the vehicle.
