Converter Braces w/Muffler Vibration Dampeners
Removal Procedure
Important: The catalytic converter hanger bracket cannot be separated from the
exhaust piping, without damage to the piping or the bracket.
- Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to General Vehicle
Lifting and Jacking in General Information.
- Remove the transmission support crossmember. Refer to Transmission
Replacement in Automatic Transmission On-Vehicle Service.
- Remove the catalytic converter support bolts with the washers.
- Remove the dampener (right side).
- Remove the catalytic converter support.
- Remove the catalytic converter support bolts.
- Remove the dampener (left side).
Install Procedure
- Install the dampener.
- Install the bolts.
Tighten
• | Tighten the bolts to 41 N·m (30 lb ft). |
• | Ensure that the bottom edge of the dampener is horizontal. |
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Loosely install two bolts, with washers, in order to secure the
catalytic converter support to the transmission case.
- Loosely install two bolts/screw, in order to secure the hanger
bracket to the support.
- Loosely install two bolts, in order to secure the dampener to the catalytic
converter support and the right-hand converter.
Tighten
• | Tighten the bolts to 34 N·m (25 lb ft). |
• | Ensure that the bottom edge of the dampener is horizontal. |
- Install the transmission support crossmember. Refer to Transmission
Replacement in Automatic Transmission On-Vehicle Service.
- Lower the vehicle.
