Investigation of radios returned to the supplier for investigation shows that less than half have a confirmed manufacturing defect.
The most common cause of radios being replaced for reasons other than manufacturing defects is reported failure of the compact disc player mechanism, which subsequent investigation shows is due to use of damaged or defective CDs or paper labels dislodging from CDs and jamming the mechanism.
Radios replaced for reasons other than manufacturing defect or which have been tampered with are not covered by warranty. Any radios exhibiting tampering, failure due to defective CDs or due to customer abuse will be returned to dealerships and warranty claims reversed.
Information on the following pages has been prepared by the radio supplier (Blaupunkt) in order to aid dealerships in avoiding warranty claim rejection. Please pass this information to workshop personnel responsible for radio replacement and use to discuss with customers as appropriate.
It is also recommended that this information be passed to Sales personnel in your dealership and that during the new vehicle delivery process customers be advised of the need to use only good quality CDs.
Where it is suspected that a defective compact disc is the cause of mechanism failure, it is recommended that dealerships advise customers that replacement costs may be charged as a retail repair.
