The instrument panel cupholder features a cupholder ring which automatically rotates to a horizontal position when the cupholder is opened and returns to the vertical position when closed. Excessive side load on the cupholder ring may dislodge the pivot mechanism. When this occurs, the cupholder ring will not automatically return to the vertical position when closed or to the horizontal position when opened.

The mechanism which operates the pivot ring is designed so that in the event of excessive force being applied, the pivot pin will normally dislodge. If the pin has dislodged, it may be reinstalled following the procedure below, eliminating the need to replace the cupholder.

  1. Remove the instrument panel center trim assembly following the procedures shown in SIP section 1A3, para. 3.8. Remove the cupholder from the trim.

  2. Remove the two screws from the side of the cupholder. This will enable to the side cover to be separated from the mechanism.

  3. To repair, reinstall the cupholder into the bottom half of the housing as shown. Pay special attention to the spring location (1).

  4. Reinstall the clip. Pay attention to the slot location as shown. Press the clip until it clicks into place (1).

  5. Install the top cover, ensuring that the arm of the pivot pin is located in the slot in the cover. Check the operation of the cupholder. If operating correctly, replace and tighten the two screws holding the cover in place.
  6. Install the instrument panel centre trim assembly.
