Unsuccessful Brake Pedal Position Sensor Learn Procedure

Subject:Unsuccessful Brake Pedal Position Sensor Learn Procedure

Models:2007-2007 Chevrolet Caprice, Lumina (Export)

After replacement and/or service programming (SPS) of the BCM, technicians must perform the Brake Pedal Position Sensor Learn and program the SDM primary key to the BCM with the Tech 2®.

Some dealers have reported that they have no success performing the brake pedal sensor learn procedure.

Several causes have been identified that may lead to a failure in the brake pedal position sensor learn procedure:

    • The parking brake is not applied;
    • Diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) are set;
    • Non-genuine accessories (typically a SATNAV unit) is wired into the vehicle, interfering with GMLAN communications.

The following procedure should be performed if you have no success in performing the brake position sensor relearn procedure.

  1. Apply the parking brake.
  2. The Tech 2® was changed on TIS CD#9 to prompt the user to apply the parking brake when performing this procedure.

  3. Clear all DTCs prior to performing the relearn procedure.
  4. Important: After clearing any current DTCs, there will still be DTCs stored which relate to the brake sensor. This is normal until the sensor learn has been completed and will not effect the relearn.

  5. Disconnect any non-genuine accessories that are wired into the GMLAN network or connected to any other circuit that may interfere with programming.
