A/C Not Cold, Compressor Does Not Turn Back On After Full Throttle Acceleration (Reprogram ECM)

Subject:A/C Not Cold, Compressor Does Not Turn Back On After Full Throttle Acceleration (Reprogram ECM)

Models:2007-2008 Chevrolet Caprice, Lumina
with V8 Engine
Built Prior to 4/26/07

Condition

Some customers may comment that the A/C is not cold and/or that the compressor does not turn back on after full throttle acceleration.

Under full throttle acceleration, the ECM disables the air conditioning (A/C) compressor. This is normal operation. However, in some circumstances, the ECM may fail to switch the A/C compressor back on when normal driving resumes. Turning the HVAC controls off or cycling the ignition temporarily corrects this condition.

Do not confuse this condition with a faulty A/C module which would be evidenced by the condenser fan not operating.

Cause

This condition may be caused by ECM software that does not reinitiate A/C compressor operation.

Correction

After verifying that the vehicle has the condition described above and that there are no other causes of poor A/C performance, reprogram the engine ECM using SPS from TIS2Web or TIS DVD #8 or later.
