Some customers may comment that it is "hard to move the automatic transmission shifter from Park to Reverse, or Reverse to Park."
This condition only effects vehicles equipped with the 6L80E six-speed automatic transmission.
This condition may be caused by insufficient clearance between the shifter rod linkage and the left hand side of the underbody transmission tunnel insulator assembly. This can result in a foul condition as shown above.
After verifying that the vehicle has the condition described above, raise the vehicle to view the contact area. Once identified, you will need to increase the clearance to allow free movement of the transmission selector rod throughout its operational range.
The tranmission will not require removal to complete the following procedure.
The tranmission tunnel insulator is quite thick, multi-layered and simple to fashion out of its original molded shape. This makes it quite easy to modify. Using light pressure from a lever, extension bar or blunt screwdriver, deform the insulator to provide sufficient clearance to the affected area.
Do NOT cut the insulator or bend the selector rod to provide clearance.
