Operation of Turn by Turn Satellite Navigation System

Factory-installed optional "turn by turn" satellite navigation (UY4) is now available on all 2008 model year Lumina and Caprice sedans. This is an alternative to the more comprehensive full color (UV9) map system available on vehicles with full color audio system display (Caprice LTZ, SS and Royale).

The turn by turn directions are displayed only in the Instrument Cluster MFD screen regardless of which audio system is installed in the vehicle and the system is operated with the switches located on the steering wheel.

The "NAV" button on the audio system control panel is not used with the 'turn by turn' system. The NAV button on the full color screen audio unit control panel is active only when full color map satellite navigation is installed.

If the (inactive) NAV button (1) on the audio unit is pressed on a Caprice LTZ, SS or Royale with a "turn by turn" system installed, the audio full color screen will go blank until such time as any other audio button is pressed (excluding the off button).

This is normal operation for Caprice LTZ, SS and Royale vehicles equipped with the optional turn by turn satellite navigation system and does indicate a fault in the system. The audio system or turn by turn satellite navigation system should not be diagnosed or replaced under warranty for this condition.
