Bulletin is updated with issue 2 to correct instruction regarding version 5. facia replacement, which is not possible following release of version 6. software to TIS.
The purpose of this bulletin is to advise of the introduction of revised software in the audio system in Lumina and Caprice vehicles, effecting the method of servicing pre-breakpoint vehicles. This also announces the extension of the existing Blaupunkt changeover program to now include 2007 and later model years.
In May 2007, at the breakpoints shown later in this bulletin, changes were made to the radio software for all Lumina and Caprice models. The previous software version was designated Ver 5. The new version is Ver 6. The two software levels and audio system components are incompatible.
As a result of this software upgrade:
| • | Ver5 radios cannot be reprogrammed to Ver6 and Ver6 cannot be reprogrammed to Ver5. |
| • | Ver5 IRC, Fascia and SIC (where applicable) cannot be mixed in the same vehicle with Ver6 IRC, fascia or SIC. (Backward compatibility of Ver6 Fascia and SIC with Ver 5 IRC to be confirmed.) |
| • | Limitations in TIS will enable it to support only one software level. From release of TIS CD#9 (September 2007 TIS 2 Web), TIS will support only Ver 6 software. From this revision, it will no longer be possible to program ver 5 IRC of fascia. |
| • | Prior to release of Ver6 software into TIS, it will not be possible to program a replacement Ver6 radio. In the event of a radio requiring replacement during this interim period, please contact TAC. Ver6 Fascia and SIC can be replaced independently of the radio. |
Radio Servicing
Beginning with TIS CD#9, September 1, 2007, the software version in TIS and TIS2 Web SPS will be changed to Ver6.
| • | Dealerships will be able to program Ver6 (only) radios as replacement units |
| • | Ver5 IRC and fascia will no longer be able to be programmed by SPS. Stock of IRCs and fascias cannot be used for warranty or retail repairs as IRCs and fascias will not be able to be programmed using a Tech 2. Hold Ver5 IRCs and fascias in service parts stock pending advice on the return process |
| • | Replacement of a radio IRC or fascia in pre-breakpoint vehicles previously equipped with Ver5 will require replacement of the IRC, Fascia and SIC to Ver6 specification. |
| • | Vehicles already equipped with Ver6 radios can have individual IRC, fascia or SIC replaced separately and programmed using TIS |
| • | Ver6 IRC, fascia and SIC will be available as changeover units through Central Motors, extending the changeover program (refer to service bulletin H07-08-03) from 2003-2006 model years to now include 2007 and later model years. Conditions outlined in bulletin H07-08-03 will apply to 2007 and later model years. Part numbers are shown below. |
Dealer Action
From release of new Ver6 software into TIS or TIS 2 Web (approximately September 7, 2007), if a Ver5 (pre-breakpoint ) vehicle requires a replacement IRC or fascia, contact Central Motors with diagnosis information and request the necessary IRC, fascia and SIC as changeover. Changeover will require installation of upgraded Ver6 radio, fascia and (if equipped) SIC. Return all removed components to dhangeover service (Central Motors) as per the instructions shown in service bulletin H07-08-03. When equipped, program the audio system to Ver6 using updated TIS or TIS 2 Web. If a Ver6 (post- breakpoint) vehicle requires a replacement IRC, fascia or SIC, contact Central Motors and request the affected part only. Follow replacement instructions as shown in Service information (SI).
Following the release in TIS of Ver6 software (mid-September), hold service parts stock of Ver5 IRC and fascia (listed below). Instructions will be provided regarding return for credit. Ver5 SIC may continue to be used in conjunction with Ver5 IRC/ fascia if only the SIC is to be replaced.
