Remote Key Buttons Worn (Replace Key Pad)

Some customers may comment that the remote key buttons show a distorted or prematurely worn appearance.

This condition may be caused by the durability of the remote button material.

Revised remote key pads were introduced after the above listed VIN breakpoint. The new remote (2) can be identified by the deletion of the white paint from the buttons, different button feel and buttons that protrude further from the remote house.

Replace the upper remote key housing as outlined in the following procedure.

Important: Do not replace the complete remote assembly for this condition.

1. Separate the two halves of the key as follows:




1.1.	Insert a small screwdriver with a 3mm blade into the slot.

1.2.	Pry open the two halves by moving the handle of the screwdriver towards the keyshaft.





1.2.	Note also that the blade must be inserted on an angle as shown above.





Notice: Using any other area besides the upper slot may result in damage to the plastic housing.

1.3.	The two halves can then be separated easily by inserting the screwdriver into the upper slot as shown.






2. Now separate the upper and lower halves of the remote key by releasing the retaining tang with a screwdriver (1).



3. Ensure that the battery, circuit board and seal remain with the lower half of the housing.



4. Remove the metal key ring eyelet (1) by sliding it off the upper housing.
5. Install the key ring eyelet to the new upper housing.
6. Reassemble the key, ensuring that the battery is installed with the correct orientation and the seals and circuit board are properly installed.
7. Ensure that the key functions properly.
