Wheel Drive Shaft Nut Torque Specification Change (Export Only)

Subject:Wheel Drive Shaft Nut Torque Specification Change

Models:2007-2008 Chevrolet Caprice, Lumina (Export)

The service torque requirement for the rear wheel drive shaft nut has been increased to 425 N·m.

Any service repair or removal that involves the drive shaft nut (e.g. rear wheel bearing replacement) will require a new drive shaft nut to be installed and torqued to the increased value in the following steps.

  1. First pass - 150 N·m
  2. Back off ½ turn
  3. Second pass - 425 N·m

Service Information (SI) is currently being updated to reflect this change.

For wheel drive shaft nut removal and reinstallation, refer to Driveline/Axle and Wheel Drive Shafts in SI.

Important: 425 N·m is an extraordinarily high torque and out of the range for most workshop torque wrenches. Since this torque is so critical, a special torque wrench or torque multiplier bar or break bar may need to be obtained for this task.
