Tilt Sensor Function Inoperative Genuine Accessory

Diagnostic Fault Information

Perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle prior to using this diagnostic procedure.

Circuit/System Description

This diagnostic procedure should be used in the case of the following: The alarm has been armed, a 30 second period has elapsed to enable the alarm system to complete the full arming cycle and the alarm siren does not sound when the vehicle inclination angle is changed. The alarm module registers the current vehicle inclination when the alarm system is armed. If the inclination angle of the vehicle is changed while the alarm system is in an armed state, then the alarm siren should sound. The tilt feature inoperative may be caused by the following:

    • Tilt sensor not mounted securely.
    • Tilt sensor incorrectly connected.
    • Short circuit to ground or incorrect function of the disable switch.

Circuit/System Testing

Tilt Sensor not Securely Mounted

  1. Locate the tilt sensor mounting bolts.
  2. Ensure that the bolt holding the mounting bracket is tightened to 6 Nm.
  3. Ensure that the plastic case of the tilt sensor is firmly attached to the mounting bracket.
  4. Ensure that the harness connector is firmly connected to the tilt sensor.

Tilt Sensor Incorrectly Connected

  1. Ensure that the harness connecter terminal 2 is vacant.
  2. Test for less than 1.0 ohm of resistance between the tilt sensor harness connector terminal 4 and ground.
  3. If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
  4. Connect the alarm module harness connector and from inside the vehicle, enable the alarm system with the remote transmitter key. Test for 4.8-5.2  volts between the tilt sensor 5-volt reference circuit terminal 1 and ground.
  5. If less than the specified range, test the 5-volt reference circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance.
If greater than the specified range, test the 5-volt reference circuit for a short to voltage.
  6. Disconnect the alarm module harness connector and test for less than 1.0 ohm of resistance between the alarm module harness connector terminal 4 and the tilt sensor harness connector terminal 3
  7. If greater than the specified range, test the circuit for an open/high resistance.
  8. Test for infinite resistance between the alarm module harness connector terminal 4 and ground.
  9. If not the specified value, replace the alarm module harness.
  10. Replace the tilt sensor and test the alarm operation.
  11. If alarm system is still inoperative, replace the alarm module.

Short Circuit to Ground or Incorrect Function of the Disable Switch

  1. Ignition OFF, alarm module connector and disable switch disconnected.
  2. Test for infinite resistance between the alarm module harness connector terminal 11 and ground.
  3. If not the specified value, replace the alarm module harness.
  4. Connect the disable switch.
  5. While pressing the disable switch button, test for less than 1.0 ohm resistance between the alarm module harness connector terminal 11 and ground.
  6. If not the specified value, replace the disable switch.
  7. Release the disable button and test for infinite resistance between the alarm module harness connector terminal 11 and ground.
  8. If not the specified value, replace the disable switch.
