Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 1758510  Size: SH
  1. Remove the fuel pump fuse.
  2. Start the engine. After it stalls, crank the engine for 10 seconds to rid the fuel system of fuel pressure.
  3. Drain the engine oil.
  4. Drain the engine coolant. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .
  5. Drain the power steering oil.
  6. Drain the transaxle oil. Refer to Transmission Fluid Replacement for the Aisin 55-51LE or Transmission Fluid Replacement for the D33 Transaxle.

  8. Discharge the air conditioning system, if equipped. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  9. Remove the fuel injector sight shield. Refer to Fuel Injector Sight Shield Replacement .

  11. Remove the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement .
  12. Disconnect the upper radiator hose from the water outlet port.

  14. Disconnect the water hose from the water outlet port.
  15. Disconnect the lower radiator hose from the water pipe.
  16. Disconnect the heater inlet/outlet hose from the heater inlet/outlet pipe.

  18. Disconnect the power steering hoses from the power steering fluid reservoir.
  19. Remove the battery. Refer to Battery Replacement .
  20. Remove the engine control module (ECM). Refer to Engine Control Module Replacement .
  21. Disconnect the engine fuse block main cable.

  23. Disconnect the ground terminal wiring harness.
  24. Disconnect the fuel feed line.
  25. Disconnect the evaporative (EVAP) emission canister purge front hose from the EVAP emission canister purge solenoid valve.

  27. Disconnect the brake booster vacuum hose from the rear cylinder head cover.
  28. Disconnect the transmission range (TR) switch electrical connector.
  29. Disconnect the shift control cable from the transmission.
  30. Disconnect the transmission oil cooling pipe from the radiator.

  32. Disconnect the transmission oil cooling pipe from the radiator.
  33. Disconnect the stabilizer link.
  34. Disconnect the tie rod end joint.
  35. Disconnect the control arm joint.
  36. Remove the left and right axle shaft. Refer to Front Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement .
  37. Disconnect the interm shaft from the power steering gear.

  39. Remove the propeller shaft. Refer to Propeller Shaft Replacement .

  40. Object Number: 1765845  Size: SH
  41. Remove the cradle support bracket retaining bolts from the rear of the cradle.
  42. Make sure that all components are set in the exact position on the EN-48243 or EN-48244 .
  43. • Cradle Supporter (1-4)
    • Diesel Engine Oil Pan Supporter (A)
    • FAM II 2.4L Diesel Engine Oil Pan Supporter (B)
    • HFV6 3.2L Engine Oil Pan Supporter (C and D)
    • Manual Transaxle Supporter (E)
    • Automatic Transaxle Supporter  (F)
    • Transfer Case Supporter M/T and A/T (G)
    • Transaxle Mount Supporter M/T and A/T (H)

    Important: Only lower the vehicle far enough to take the weight off the engine and transaxle mount, or damage to the mount and pallet supporter failure may occur.

  44. Lower the vehicle and position the engine assembly on to EN-48243 with EN-48244 to the cradle.

  46. Remove the engine mount assembly.

  48. Remove the transaxle mount assembly belts (1).

    Important: Make sure that all the cables, connectors and hoses are disconnected from the engine and transaxle assembly.

  50. Raise the vehicle to remove from the engine and transaxle assembly clear.
  51. Remove the engine and transaxle assembly from the vehicle.
  52. Install the hoist to the engine support bracket and lift the engine assembly far enough to take the weight off the transaxle front and rear mount assembly.
  53. Remove the transaxle front mount assembly from the cradle.

  55. Remove the transaxle rear mount assembly from the cradle.
  56. Lift the engine assembly and remove the cradle from the engine and transaxle assembly.
  57. Separate the engine block from the transaxle as follows:
  58. • Remove the starter.
    • Remove the torque converter bolts.
    • Remove the transaxle to engine block mounting bolts.
    • Remove the oil flange to transaxle mounting bolts.

Installation Procedure

    Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  1. Install the torque converter bolts, if necessary.
  2. Tighten
    Tighten the torque converter bolts to 65 N·m (48 lb ft).

  3. Install the transaxle to the engine block, if necessary.
  4. Tighten

        • Tighten the oil pan flange-to-transaxle mounting bolts to 50 N·m(37 lb ft).
        •  Tighten the transaxle to engine block mounting bolts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

    Important: Make sure that all components are set in the exact position on the EN-48243 with the EN-48244 .

  5. Install the engine and transaxle assembly onto the cradle.
  6. Important: Before tightening the transaxle front mount through bolt, swing the engine assembly backwards and forwards or from the side to side for the proper alignment.

  7. Install the transaxle front mount assembly.
  8. Tighten

        • Tighten the transaxle front mount retaining bolts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).
        • Tighten the transaxle front mount-to-cradle through bolt to 90 N·m (66 lb ft).

    Important: Before tightening the transaxle rear mount through bolt, swing the engine assembly backwards and forwards or from the side to side for the proper alignment.

  9. Install the transaxle rear mount assembly to the cylinder block.
  10. Tighten

        • Tighten the transaxle rear mount retaining bolts to 90 N·m (66 lb ft).
        • Tighten the transaxle rear mount-to-bracket through bolt to 90 N·m (66 lb ft).

  11. Lift the vehicle.
  12. Lower the vehicle and position the engine and transaxle assembly with the cradle attached on to EN-48243 with EN-48244 to the vehicle.

  14. Install the transaxle mount.
  15. Tighten

        • Tighten the transaxle mount assembly retaining bolts to 37 N·m (27 lb ft).
        •  Tighten the transaxle mount bracket retaining bolts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  16. Install the engine mount assembly.
  17. Tighten

        • Tighten the engine mount frame side bracket retaining bolt to 100 N·m (74 lb ft).
        • Tighten the engine mount frame side bracket retaining nuts to 90 N·m (66 lb ft).
        • Tighten the engine mount adapter retaining bolts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  18. Install the cradle mounting bolts to the front of the cradle.
  19. Tighten
    Tighten the cradle mounting bolts to 155 N·m (114 lb ft).

  20. Install the cradle support bracket mounting bolts.
  21. Tighten
    Tighten the cradle support bracket mounting bolts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  22. Connect the stabilizer link.
  23. Connect the tie rod end joint.
  24. Connect the control arm joint.
  25. Install the left and right axle shaft. Refer to Front Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement .
  26. Connect the interm shaft to the power steering gear.
  27. Install the propeller shaft. Refer to Propeller Shaft Replacement .

  29. Connect the transmission range (TR) switch electrical connector.
  30. Connect the shift control cable to the transmission.
  31. Connect the transmission oil cooling pipe to the radiator.
  32. Connect the power steering fluid return cooling pipe.

  34. Connect the fuel feed line.
  35. Connect the evaporative (EVAP) emission canister purge front hose to the EVAP emission canister purge solenoid valve.
  36. Connect the brake booster vacuum hose to the rear cylinder head cover.

  38. Install the battery. Refer to Battery Replacement .
  39. Install the ECM. Refer to Engine Control Module Replacement .
  40. Connect the engine fuse block main cable.
  41. Connect the ground terminal wiring harness.

  43. Connect the lower radiator hose to the water pipe.
  44. Connect the heater inlet/outlet hose to the heater inlet/outlet pipe.
  45. Connect the power steering hoses to the power steering fluid reservoir.

  47. Connect the upper radiator hose from the water outlet port.
  48. Connect the water hose from the water outlet port.

  50. Install the fuel injector sight shield. Refer to Fuel Injector Sight Shield Replacement .
  51. Remove the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement .

  53. Install the fuel pump fuse.
  54. Refill the engine crankcase with engine oil.
  55. Refill the engine coolant system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .
  56. Refill the power steering system and bleed the system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .
  57. Refill the A/C refrigerant system, if equipped. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  58. Check for any leaks, unusual sounds or all fluid level.
