Removal Procedure
Warning: Refer to Sensing and Diagnostic Module Handling Warning in the Preface section.
Warning: Refer to SIR Warning in the Preface section.
Warning: If the vehicle interior is exposed to moisture and becomes soaked up to the level of the sensing and diagnostic module (SDM), the SDM and SDM harness
connector must be replaced. The SDM could be activated when powered, which could cause airbag deployment and result in personal injury.
- Disable the supplemental inflatable restraints (SIR). Refer to
SIR Disabling and Enabling.
- Remove the floor console. Refer to
Console Replacement.
- Remove the connector position assurance lock, which is tethered to the SDM connector.
- Disconnect the SDM electrical connector (2).
- Remove the SDM mounting bolts (1).
- Remove the SDM (3).
Installation Procedure
- Install the SDM (3) with the arrow pointing toward front of vehicle.
Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.
Warning: Be careful when you handle a sensor. Do not strike or jolt a sensor. Before applying power to a sensor:
• | Remove any dirt, grease, etc. from the mounting surface. |
• | Position the sensor horizontally on the mounting surface. |
• | Point the arrow on the sensor toward the front of the vehicle. |
• | Tighten all of the sensor fasteners and sensor bracket fasteners to the specified torque value. |
Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause air bag deployment, personal injury, or unnecessary SIR system repairs.
- Install the SDM mounting bolts (1) and tighten to
10 N·m (89 lb in).
- Connect the SDM electrical connector (2).
- Install the connector position assurance lock, which is tethered to the SDM connector.
- Install the floor console. Refer to
Console Replacement.
- Enable the SIR. Refer to
SIR Disabling and Enabling.
- If new SDM was installed perform the body control module (BCM) reprogramming procedure. Refer to
Body Control Module Programming and Setup.
