Removal Procedure
Warning: Refer to Battery Disconnect Warning in the Preface section.
Warning: To avoid being burned, do not remove the radiator cap or surge tank cap while the engine is hot. The cooling system will release scalding fluid and steam under pressure if radiator cap or surge
tank cap is removed while the engine and radiator are still hot.
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Remove the fuel injector sight shield. Refer to
Fuel Injector Sight Shield Replacement.
- Allow the engine to cool to ambient temperature less than 50°C, and slowly remove coolant filler cap.
- Drain approximately two liters of coolant into a suitable container.
- Disconnect the wiring harness connector (1) from the ECT sensor (2).
Note: Clean the area around the ECT before removal to avoid debris from entering the engine. If coolant leaks from the cylinder head as the sensor is removed, screw the sensor back into the cylinder head and drain more coolant from
the cooling system.
- Remove the ECT sensor (1).
Installation Procedure
Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.
- Install the ECT sensor (1) and tighten to
22 N·m (16 lb ft).
- Connect the ECT sensor connector.
- Connect the negative battery cable.
- Install the fuel injector sight shield. Refer to
Fuel Injector Sight Shield Replacement.
- Refill the cooling system. Refer to
Engine Cooling System Specifications.
