DTC Descriptor

DTC C056E 42: ECU Hardware Performance Calibration Data Set Not Programmed

Circuit/System Description

After replacement of the power steering control module (PSCM), the PSCM must be configured with the proper tuning profile using the service programming system (SPS).

Conditions for Running the DTC

The ignition is ON.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

This DTC will set if the PSCM has not undergone SPS reprogramming.

Actions Taken When DTC Sets

    • DTC C056E 42 is stored in memory.
    • The driver information center (DIC) displays the SERVICE POWER STEERING warning message.
    • Steering assist is set to a default level.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

    • A current DTC will clear after the PSCM has been configured with the proper tuning profile.
    • A history DTC will clear after 100 consecutive malfunction-free ignition cycles from when the PSCM has been configured with the proper tuning profile.

Circuit/System Verification

  1. Verify DTC  C056E 4B is not set.
  2. If DTC is set, perform the steering wheel angle and torque calibration procedure. If the DTC resets, replace the PSCM.

Circuit/System Description

DTC C056E 4B

After either replacing the power steering control module or steering gear assembly, the PSCM Centering Procedure must be performed.

DTC C056E 42

After replacement of the power steering control module, the PSCM must be configured with the proper calibration file using the service programming system (SPS).

DTC C056E 45

After replacement of the power steering control module or steering gear assembly, the PSCM must learn the mechanical center of the steering gear.

DTC C056E 46

After a battery disconnection or loss of battery, the power steering control module PSCM must undergo initialization.

The ignition is ON.

DTC C056E 4B

This DTC will set if the PSCM has not been calibrated using the PSCM Centering Procedure PSCM Centering Procedure.

DTC C056E 42

This DTC will set if the PSCM has not undergone SPS reprogramming.

DTC C056E 45

This DTC will set if the PSCM has not learned the mechanical center of the steering gear by turning the steering wheel 90 degrees to the left, and then 90 degrees past center to the right.

DTC C056E 46

This DTC will set if the PSCM has not undergone initialization by turning the steering wheel left and right lock-to-lock.

Actions Taken When DTC Sets

    • The driver information center (DIC) displays the SERVICE POWER STEERING warning message.
    • Steering assist is set to a default level.

  2. If the DTC is set, perform the PSCM Centering Procedure. If DTC resets, replace the PSCM.

  1. Verify DTC  C056E 42 is not set.
  2. If the DTC is set, reprogram the PSCM. If the DTC resets, replace the PSCM.

B056E 45

  1. Verify DTC  C056E 45 is not set.
  2. If the DTC is set, perform the PSCM Centering Procedure. If DTC resets, replace the PSCM.

B056E 46

  1. Verify DTC  C056E 46 is not set.
  2. If the DTC is set, turn the steering wheel all the way to the left, then all the way to the right, then return the wheel to center position. If the DTC resets, replace the PSCM.

After either replacing the power steering control module (PSCM), motor or steering column assembly, the Steering Wheel Angle and Torque Calibration procedure must be performed.

After replacement of the PSCM, the PSCM must be configured with the proper calibration using the service programming system (SPS).
