Removal Procedure

Tools Required

J 37043 Park Brake Cable Release Tool

  1. Place the park brake lever in the fully released position.
  2. Disable the supplemental inflatable restraint (SIR) system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling .
  3. Remove the front floor console. Refer to Front Floor Console Replacement .

  4. Object Number: 1876517  Size: SH
  5. Using ONLY hand tools, loosen the adjusting nut (1) completely to the end of the front cable threaded rod.

  6. Object Number: 1876518  Size: SH
  7. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  8. Remove the rear tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
  9. Disconnect the left rear park brake cable (1) or the right rear park brake cable (2) from the front park brake cable equalizer.

  11. Remove the park brake cable bracket bolt (1).

  12. Object Number: 1876523  Size: SH
  13. Remove the park brake cable bracket bolt (1) and nut (2).

  14. Object Number: 1876525  Size: SH
  15. Disconnect the park brake cable eyelet (1) from the park brake actuator.
  16. Compress the park brake cable conduit spring.
  17. Using the J 37043 , remove the park brake cable (2) from the mounting bracket.
  18. Remove the park brake cable.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 1876525  Size: SH
  1. Connect the park brake cable eyelet (1) from the park brake actuator.
  2. Compress the park brake cable conduit spring.
  3. Install the park brake cable (2) to the mounting bracket.
  4. Ensure the locking tabs on the park brake cable conduit are fully deployed.

    Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  5. Install the park brake cable bracket bolt (1) and nut (2).
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt and nut to 12 N·m (106 lb in).

  7. Install the park brake cable bracket bolt (1).
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 12 N·m (106 lb in).

  9. Connect the left rear park brake cable (1) or the right rear park brake cable (2) to the park brake cable equalizer.
  10. Adjust the park brake. Refer to Park Brake Adjustment .
  11. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
  12. Install the front floor console. Refer to Front Floor Console Replacement .
  13. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling .

J 37043 Park Brake Cable Release Tool

Removal Procedure

  1. Place the park brake lever in the fully released position.
  2. Disable the supplemental inflatable restraint (SIR) system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling.
  3. Remove the front floor console. Refer to Front Floor Console Replacement.

  4. Object Number: 1876517  Size: SH
  5. Using ONLY hand tools, loosen the adjusting nut (1) completely to the end of the front cable threaded rod.

  6. Object Number: 1876518  Size: SH
  7. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
  8. Remove the rear tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation.
  9. Disconnect the left rear park brake cable (1) or the right rear park brake cable (2) from the front park brake cable equalizer.

  11. Remove the park brake cable bracket bolt (1).

  12. Object Number: 1876523  Size: SH
  13. Remove the park brake cable bracket bolt (1) and nut (2).

  14. Object Number: 1876525  Size: SH
  15. Disconnect the park brake cable eyelet (1) from the park brake actuator.
  16. Compress the park brake cable conduit spring.
  17. Using the J 37043 , remove the park brake cable (2) from the mounting bracket.
  18. Remove the park brake cable.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 1876525  Size: SH
  1. Connect the park brake cable eyelet (1) from the park brake actuator.
  2. Compress the park brake cable conduit spring.
  3. Install the park brake cable (2) to the mounting bracket.
  4. Ensure the locking tabs on the park brake cable conduit are fully deployed.

    Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

  5. Install the park brake cable bracket bolt (1) and nut (2).
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt and nut to 12 N·m (106 lb in).

  7. Install the park brake cable bracket bolt (1).
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 12 N·m (106 lb in).


    Object Number: 1876518  Size: SH
  9. Connect the left rear park brake cable (1) or the right rear park brake cable (2) to the park brake cable equalizer.
  10. Adjust the park brake. Refer to Parking Brake Adjustment.
  11. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation.
  12. Install the front floor console. Refer to Front Floor Console Replacement.
  13. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling.
