Circuit Description
The body control module (BCM) monitors the key in ignition switch signal circuit. When the key is in the ignition, the ignition switch closes and the key in ignition switch signal circuit is pulled low. When the key is not in the ignition, the ignition
switch opens and the signal circuit is high.
Conditions for Running the DTC
The ignition is ON.
Conditions for Setting the DTC
• | The ignition 1 voltage circuit is active high signal and the key in ignition signal circuit is high. |
• | The conditions above must be present for more than 0.3 second. |
Action Taken When the DTC Sets
The BCM stores DTC B2965 in memory.
Conditions for Clearing the DTC
• | The DTC becomes history when the fault is no longer present. |
• | A history DTC will clear after 100 consecutive ignition cycles if the condition for the malfunction is no longer present. |

Circuit/System Verification
Verify that the Key In Ignition Status parameter is Key In when the key is in the ignition and Key Out when the key is out of the ignition.
Circuit/System Testing
- Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the key in ignition switch.
- Ignition ON, verify that a test lamp illuminates between the B+ circuit terminal listed below and ground:
• | B+ Terminal 2 (- LE5) |
⇒ | If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the B+ circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal and the ignition switch fuse is open, test the signal circuit terminal listed below for a short to ground. |
• | Signal Terminal 5 (LE5) |
• | Signal Terminal 4 (- LE5) |
- Verify the BCM scan tool Key In Ignition Status parameter is Key Out.
⇒ | If not the specified value, test the signal circuit terminal listed below for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the BCM. |
• | Signal Terminal 5 (LE5) |
• | Signal Terminal 4 (- LE5) |
- Install a 3-amp fused jumper wire between the key in ignition switch signal circuit terminal and the B+ circuit terminal terminal listed below. Verify the BCM scan tool Key In Ignition Cylinder Switch parameter is Key In.
• | B+ Terminal 2 (- LE5) |
• | Signal Terminal 5 (LE5) |
• | Signal Terminal 4 (- LE5) |
⇒ | If not the specified value, test the signal circuit for an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the BCM. |
- If all circuits test normal, test or replace the ignition switch.
