General Motors has determined that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists on some 1985 Chevrolet, Pontiac, Oldsmobile, Buick, and Cadillac "J" Models equipped with 2.0L L4 TBI engine (VIN Code P) and underhood insulation blanket.
The engine air cleaner plastic trim cover on the involved vehicles, may become detached and fall forward on the exhaust manifold. Should this occur while the vehicle is being operated, an engine compartment fire could occur without prior warning.
To correct this condition Dealers and owners are being requested to remove and discard the engine air cleaner plastic trim cover. In addition owners are being advised they can have their Dealer install an air cleaner trim decal in place of the plastic trim cover.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
