Owners of some 1983-90 J-cars equipped with Isuzu 5-speed manual transaxles (RPO MK7, MR3, and MY7) may comment about one or more of the following:
1. Transaxle hopping out of gear.
2. Higher than normal shift efforts.
3. Shifter rattle or buzz.
These conditions may be more apparent during cold weather operation.
Any of these conditions may be the result of the shift boot being to stiff.
To repair any of the above conditions a new shifter boot should be installed (P/N 22553175). The new shift boot is made of a more pliable material.
If the new boot does not satisfactorily fix the customer concern, consult previous bulletins on these subjects.
The new boot will only back service vehicles which are equipped with a boot identical to the one shown in Figure 1.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
