NOISE/VIB. DURING COOLING FAN OPER. (REPL. FAN AND MOTOR)

SUBJECT: NOISE/VIBRATION DURING COOLING FAN OPERATION (REPLACE COOLING FAN AND MOTOR ASSEMBLY) (Revised to add Parts Information)

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1989-91 "J" CARS W/2.8L AND 3.lL ----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Application: 1991 Sunbird with 3.1L (VIN T) ------------ 1989 Cavalier with 2.8L (VIN W) 1990-91 Cavalier with 3.1L (VIN T)

Condition:

---------- Cooling fan noise (rumble/booming) is heard in passenger compartment. Vibration is felt within car through the seats, floor pan and steering wheel.

Cause:

------ "Harmonic" vibration between the cooling fan assembly and vehicle structure.

Correction:

----------- Replace the cooling fan and motor assembly. Replace parts according to the part numbers listed in the "Parts Information" below.

IMPORTANT: Both parts MUST be replaced.

Service Procedure:

Refer to Section 6B for Cooling Fan and Motor replacement.

Note: The threads attaching the fan to the motor are LEFT handed threads.
