Removal Procedure

Tools Required

J 28467-360 Engine Support Fixture

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to

    Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  3. Install the J 28467-360 to the transmission.
  4. Remove the air cleaner assembly.
  5. Remove the upper transmission support assembly bolts. Refer to Transmission Mount Replacement .

  7. Remove the upper control valve body cover bolts.
  8. Raise the vehicle. Support the vehicle. Refer to General Vehicle Lifting and Jacking in General Information.
  9. Remove the left wheel and the tire assembly. Refer to Wheel Removal in Tires and Wheels.
  10. Remove the left splash shield.
  11. Remove the transmission mount pipe expansion bolt. Refer to Transmission Mount Replacement .
  12. Remove the transmission mount to body bolts. Refer to Transmission Mount Replacement .
  13. Remove the lower transmission support assembly bolts. Refer to Transmission Mount Replacement .
  14. Remove the transmission mount from the transmission. Refer to Transmission Mount Replacement .
  15. Remove the transmission support from the transmission. Refer to Transmission Support Replacement .
  16. Remove the left outer tie rod from the steering knuckle assembly. Refer to Steering Knuckle in Front Suspension.
  17. Remove the left ball joint from the steering knuckle assembly. Refer to Ball Joint in Front Suspension.
  18. Remove the brake caliper from the steering knuckle assembly. Refer to Caliper Assembly in Front Disc Brake Caliper.
  19. Remove the drive axle from the transmission and the support. Refer to Drive Axle in Drive Axle.

  21. Remove the front suspension support brace bolts from the suspension support.

  23. Remove the front suspension support brace.
  24. Remove the oil cooler lines from the transmission. Refer to Automatic Transmission Oil Cooler Pipes Replacement .

  26. Remove the clips that attach the wire harness to the body.

  28. Remove the left suspension support bolts.
  29. Loosen the right suspension support bolts enough in order to remove the control valve body cover.
  30. Lower the vehicle.
  31. Lower the transmission with the engine support fixture enough in order to remove the control valve body cover.
  32. Raise the vehicle. Support the vehicle. Refer to General Vehicle Lifting and Jacking in General Information.

  34. Remove the control valve body cover bolts and studs.

  36. Remove the control valve body cover.

  38. Remove the control valve body cover gasket.
  39. Clean the case and the valve body cover gasket surfaces.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the control valve body cover gasket.

  2. Object Number: 104573  Size: SH
  3. Install the control valve body cover.

  4. Object Number: 104570  Size: SH
  5. Install the valve body cover lower bolts.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 28 N·m (21 lb ft).

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  7. Install the transmission support assembly. Refer to Transmission Support Replacement .
  8. Loosely install the lower transmission support assembly bolts. Refer to Transmission Mount Replacement .
  9. Lower the vehicle.

  11. Use the J 28467-360 in order to raise the transmission.

  12. Object Number: 104570  Size: SH
  13. Install the valve body cover upper bolts.
  14. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 28 N·m (21 lb ft).

  15. Install the upper transmission support assembly bolts. Refer to Transmission Mount Replacement .
  16. Raise the vehicle. Support the vehicle. Refer to General Vehicle Lifting and Jacking in General Information.
  17. Install the lower transmission support assembly bolts. Refer to Transmission Mount Replacement .
  18. Install the transmission mount. Refer to Transmission Mount Replacement .
  19. Install the transmission mount to body bolts. Refer to Transmission Mount Replacement .

  21. Attach the wire harness to the body.
  22. Install the oil cooler lines to the transmission. Refer to Automatic Transmission Oil Cooler Pipes Replacement .

  23. Object Number: 104577  Size: SH
  24. Tighten the right front suspension support bolts.
  25. Install the left front suspension support bolts.

  26. Object Number: 104576  Size: SH
  27. Install the front suspension support brace.

  28. Object Number: 104575  Size: SH
  29. Install the front suspension support brace bolts.

  30. Install the drive axle to the transmission. Refer to Drive Axle in Drive Axle On-Vehicle Service.
  31. Install the left ball joint to the steering knuckle assembly. Refer to Ball Joint in Front Suspension.
  32. Install the left outer tie rod to the steering knuckle assembly. Refer to Steering Knuckle in Front Suspension.
  33. Install the brake caliper to the steering knuckle assembly. Refer to Caliper Assembly in Front Disc Brake Caliper.
  34. Install the left splash shield.
  35. Install the left wheel and tire assembly. Refer to Wheel Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  36. Lower the vehicle.
  37. Install the air cleaner assembly.

  39. Remove the J 28467-360 from the transmission.
  40. Connect the negative battery cable.
  41. Apply the brakes. Start the engine. Shift the transmission from R (Reverse) to D (Drive).
  42. Install the transmission mount pipe expansion bolt. Refer to Transmission Mount Replacement .
