SUBJECT: ERRATIC INTERIOR LIGHTING CONDITIONS (REPLACE DOOR JAMB SWITCH)

MODELS: 1995 CHEVROLET CAVALIER (BUILT BEFORE VIN 101877) 1995 PONTIAC SUNFIRE (BUILT BEFORE VIN 500690)

CONDITION:

SOME OWNERS MAY COMMENT ON THE FOLLOWING INTERIOR LIGHTING CONDITIONS:

1. INTERIOR LIGHTS WILL NOT TURN OFF. 2. INTERIOR LIGHTS COMING ON BY THEMSELVES. 3. INTERIOR LIGHTS NOT TURNING OFF WHEN THE IGNITION IS TURNED OFF. 4. INTERIOR LIGHTS COMING ON WHEN THE IGNITION IS OFF.

CAUSE:

THE FRONT DOOR JAMB SWITCHES MAY BE EXPOSED TO MOISTURE. THE MOISTURE IS ENTERING THROUGH A GAP IN THE "A" PILLAR SHEET METAL THAT IS DIRECTLY ABOVE THE DOOR JAMB SWITCH. SINCE THE SWITCH IS NOT SEALED, THE MOISTURE CAUSES SHORTING AT THE TERMINALS IN THE DOOR JAMB SWITCH. ONE OR BOTH OF THE FRONT SWITCHES MAY BE SHORTED.

CORRECTION:

A NEW DOOR JAMB SWITCH HAS BEEN RELEASED THAT IS SEALED AND WATERPROOFED. BOTH RIGHT AND LEFT FRONT DOOR JAMB SWITCHES SHOULD BE CHANGED IF CONDITIONS ARE PRESENT.

REMOVE:

1. BOTH RIGHT AND LEFT SOUND INSULATORS. 2. PULL OR PRY OUT EXISTING DOOR JAMB SWITCH. 3. DISCONNECT CONNECTOR TO SWITCH.

INSTALL:

1. CONNECT IN-LINE CONNECTOR TO NEW DOOR JAMB SWITCH, P/N 22646642. 2. ROUTE DOOR JAMB SWITCH LEAD INTO BODY PILLAR OPENING AND THROUGH FRONT BODY HINGE PILLAR (REFER TO FIGURE 1). IN-LINE CONNECTION MUST BE MADE IN THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT BETWEEN FLOOR CARPETING AND KICK PAD DEADENER.

IMPORTANT: CONNECTOR MUST REMAIN INSIDE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT.

3. PUSH NEW DOOR JAMB SWITCH INTO PLACE. 4. BOTH SOUND INSULATORS. 5. CLOSE DOOR TO SELF ADJUST THE SWITCH.
