SUBJECT: SERVICE MANUAL UPDATE-SECTION 6E3-DRIVEABILITY AND EMISSIONS-REVISED DTC P0325 AND CHART C-5

MODELS: 1995 CHEVROLET CAVALIER 1995 PONTIAC SUNFIRE WITH 2.3L ENGINE (VIN D - RPO LD2)

THIS BULLETIN IS BEING ISSUED TO REVISE THE 1995 J SERVICE MANUAL UPDATE #GMP/95-J-UPD. REVISIONS HAVE BEEN MADE TO THE DTC P0325 KNOCK SENSOR (KS) CIRCUIT AND CHART C-5 KNOCK SENSOR (KS) SYSTEM CHECK AS FOLLOWS:

* PAGE 6E3-A-124 - DTC P0325 KNOCK SENSOR (KS) CIRCUIT STEP 5 SHOULD BE REVISED AS FOLLOWS: 1. IGNITION "OFF". 2. DISCONNECT THE PCM CONNECTORS AT THE PCM. 3. INSTALL BREAKOUT BOX J 39700 TO THE ENGINE HARNESS, LEAVING THE PCM DISCONNECTED. 4. WITH A DVM CONNECTED TO GROUND, MEASURE THE RESISTANCE AT THE KNOCK SENSOR SIGNAL CIRCUIT CAVITY. IS THE MEASURED RESISTANCE WITHIN THE SPECIFIED VALUE? THE PCM MUST REMAIN DISCONNECTED WHILE TAKING THE RESISTANCE READING. FAILURE TO DO THIS WILL RESULT IN AN INCORRECT RESISTANCE READING. THE BREAKOUT BOX IS USED FOR CONVENIENCE ONLY DUE TO THE TYPE OF PCM CONNECTORS USED ON THIS VEHICLE.

* PAGE 6E3-C5-4 - CHART C-5 KNOCK SENSOR (KS) SYSTEM CHECK STEP 2 SHOULD BE REVISED AS FOLLOWS: 1. IGNITION "ON", ENGINE RUNNING. 2. LISTEN FOR ENGINE KNOCK WHILE INCREASING AND DECREASING THE ENGINE SPEED. IS THE AUDIBLE KNOCK PRESENT?

THE ENGINE MUST BE RUNNING IN ORDER TO INCREASE THE ENGINE SPEED.

PLEASE MAKE NOTE OF THESE REVISIONS IN YOUR SERVICE MANUAL.
