When replacing gaskets, use care when cleaning the sealing surfaces. Do not use abrasive pads, sand paper, or power tools in order to remove gasket material except where indicated.

The use of abrasive materials will produce grit that the oil filter cannot remove. This grit can cause engine damage and accelerated wear.
