  1. Install the camshaft housing to the cylinder head with a new gasket. No sealer is needed.
  2. Loosely install one camshaft housing to cylinder head bolt to hold the housing in place.
  3. Important: Used lifters must be returned to their original position in the camshaft housing. If the camshaft is being replaced, the lifters must also be replaced.

  4. Lubricate the lifters with Camshaft and Lifter Prelube GM P/N 12345501 or equivalent. Do not get prelube onto the cover seals because they will swell.
  5. Notice: The camshaft lobes and the journals must be adequately lubricated or serious engine damage will occur upon start up.

  6. Lubricate the camshaft lobes and journals with Camshaft and Lifter Prelube GM P/N 12345501 or equivalent. Do not prelube onto the cover seals because they will swell.

  7. Object Number: 33644 Size: SH
  8. Install the camshaft in the same position as when removed. The timing chain sprocket dowel pin should be straight up and line up with the centerline of the lifter bores.
  9. If the camshaft housing covers were removed, install a new camshaft housing to camshaft housing cover seals to the cover. The exhaust camshaft housing seals are red.
  10. Apply Pipe Sealant GM P/N 1052080 or equivalent to the camshaft cover to housing retaining bolt threads.

  13. Object Number: 61312 Size: SH
  14. Install the camshaft housing cover to the camshaft housing bolts.
  15. Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 15 N·m (11 lb ft) + rotate 90 degrees.

Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
