DEFINITION: Noise occurs in 5th speed gear only

1. Disassemble the transaxle case. Refer to Transmission Case Disassemble

Check the following components for wear or damage.

•	The 5th speed constant-mesh gears

•	The 5th synchronizer

•	The output gear

Are any of the components worn or damaged?

Go to Step 2

Refer to Isolating Noise

Service, repair, or replace the components as necessary. Refer to Transmission Case Assemble

Did the noise disappear?

System OK
