REAR EDGE OF HOOD RUBS WINDSHIELD REVEAL MOLDING

SUBJECT: REAR EDGE OF HOOD RUBS WINDSHIELD REVEAL MOLDING TAB WHEN OPENING HOOD (APPLY SEALER/INSTALL SCREW)

MODELS: 1996 CHEVROLET CAVALIER 1996 TOYOTA CAVALIER

CONDITION:

SOME OWNERS MAY COMMENT THAT THE REAR EDGE OF THE HOOD RUBS THE WINDSHIELD REVEAL MOLDING TAB WHEN OPENING THE HOOD.

CAUSE:

THE CURRENT WINDSHIELD REVEAL MOLDING TAB AT THE LOWER CORNERS ARE TOO FAR FORWARD OF THE COWL.

CORRECTION:

THIS CONDITION CAN BE CORRECTED BY USING THE FOLLOWING PROCEDURE.

FIGURE 1

1. REMOVE WINDSHIELD WIPER ARMS. REFER TO SECTION 8E IN THE SERVICE MANUAL.

2. REMOVE AIR INLET SCREEN. REFER TO SECTION 10-5 IN THE SERVICE MANUAL.

3. PROTECT PAINTED SURFACES WITH MASKING TAPE OR EQUIVALENT.

4. CLEAN UNDERSIDE OF WINDSHIELD REVEAL MOLDING TAB AND PAINTED SURFACE BEHIND TAB WITH RUBBING ALCOHOL OR EQUIVALENT.

5. DRILL HOLE USING A 5/32 INCH (3.97MM) DRILL BIT AT LEAST 6 INCHES (150MM) OR LONGER. USE CAUTION TO DRILL DEEP ENOUGH TO ONLY PENETRATE METAL.

6. CLEAN DEBRIS FROM AROUND HOOD HINGE AREA.

7. APPLY 3M RIBBON SEALER, P/N 08612, OR EQUIVALENT, 3/4 INCH (20MM) X 3/8 INCH (9.52MM) CENTERED OVER HOLE UNDER MOLDING.

8. INSTALL SCREW, P/N 22546319, USING MAGNETIC SCREWDRIVER.

9. REMOVE MASKING TAPE.

10. INSTALL AIR INLET SCREEN. REFER TO SECTION 10-5 IN THE SERVICE MANUAL.

11. INSTALL WINDSHIELD WIPER ARMS. REFER TO SECTION 8E IN THE SERVICE MANUAL.
