VEHICLE SPEED SURGE WITH CRUISE CONTROL ENGAGED

SUBJECT: VEHICLE SPEED SURGE WITH CRUISE CONTROL ENGAGED (REPLACE CRUISE CONTROL MODULE)

MODELS: 1996-97 CHEVROLET CAVALIER 1996-97 PONTIAC SUNFIRE WITH 2.2L ENGINE (VIN 4 - RPO LN2) AND 3T40 TRANSAXLE

CONDITION:

SOME OWNERS MAY COMMENT ON AN ANNOYING VEHICLE SPEED SURGE WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ENGAGED. TYPICAL SPEED RANGES FOR THIS SURGE TO OCCUR ARE 35-42 MPH AND 65-72 MPH.

CAUSE:

CONDITION MAY BE DUE TO VARIATION IN TRANSAXLE SPEED OUTPUT SIGNAL.

CORRECTION:

THIS CONDITION MAY BE CORRECTED BY REPLACING THE CRUISE CONTROL MODULE. REFER TO SECTION 9B IN THE SERVICE MANUAL FOR REMOVE AND INSTALL PROCEDURES.
