Instrument Panel Trim Pad Replacement Chevrolet
Removal Procedure
- Disable the SIR system.
Refer to
Disabling the SIR System
in
SIR.
- Remove the defroster grille screw.
- With a flat-bladed tool remove the defroster grille from the instrument
panel (IP) trim pad.
- Remove the IP outer trim cover screws.
- Remove the IP outer trim covers.
- Open the IP compartment.
- Remove the right IP trim plate bezel. Refer to
Instrument Panel Trim Panel Replacement - Right Side
.
- Remove the IP trim pad screws (1).
- Remove the IP trim pad (2) from the IP carrier.
Installation Procedure
- Install the IP trim pad (2)
to the IP carrier.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the IP
trim pad screws (1).
Tighten
Tighten the screws to 2 N·m (18 lb in).
- Install the right IP trim plate bezel. Refer to
Instrument Panel Trim Panel Replacement - Right Side
.
- Close IP compartment door.
- Install the IP outer trim covers.
- Install the IP outer trim cover screws.
Tighten
Tighten the screws to 2 N·m (18 lb in).
- Install the defroster grille to the instrument panel (IP) trim
pad.
- Install the defroster grille screw.
Tighten
Tighten the screw to 2 N·m (18 lb in).
- Enable the SIR system. Refer to
Enabling the SIR System
in SIR.
Instrument Panel Trim Pad Replacement Pontiac
Removal Procedure
- Disable the SIR system.
Refer to
Disabling the SIR System
in
SIR.
- With a flat-bladed tool remove the defroster grille from the instrument
panel (IP) trim pad.
- Remove the IP upper trim panel (4) by lifting upward to
release the retainers.
- Remove the IP outer trim cover screws.
- Remove the IP outer trim covers.
- Remove the IP accessory trim plate. Refer to
Instrument Panel Accessory Trim Plate Replacement
.
- Remove the right IP trim panel screws (1).
- Remove the right IP trim panel (3).
- Remove the screws (1) attaching the IP trim pad (2).
- Remove the IP trim pad (2) from the IP carrier.
Installation Procedure
- Install the IP trim pad (2)
to the IP carrier.

- Install the screws (1)
attaching the IP trim pad (2) to the IP carrier.
Tighten
Tighten the screws to 2 N·m (18 lb in).
- Install the right IP trim panel (3).
- Install the screws to the right IP trim panel (1).
Tighten
Tighten the screws to 3 N·m (27 lb in).
- Install the IP accessory trim plate. Refer to
Instrument Panel Accessory Trim Plate Replacement
.
- Install the IP outer trim covers.
- Install IP outer trim cover screws.
Tighten
Tighten screws to 2 N·m (18 lb in).
- Install the IP upper trim panel (4) by pushing downward
until retainer are fully seated.
- Install the defroster grille to the IP carrier. Refer to
Press the defroster grille into the IP carrier until retaining tabs
are secured.
- Enable the SIR system. Refer to
Enabling the SIR System
in SIR.
