Removal Procedure

  1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the right front tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  3. Remove the right engine splash shield. Refer to Engine Splash Shield Replacement in Body Front End.
  4. Drain the engine oil. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement in Engine Mechanical.
  5. Remove the starter and lay it aside. Refer to Starter Motor Replacement in Engine Electrical.
  6. Remove the engine mount strut bracket. Refer to Engine Mount Strut Bracket Replacement .

  7. Object Number: 3791  Size: SH
  8. Remove the oil pan bolts.

  9. Object Number: 3792  Size: SH
  10. Remove the oil pan nuts.
  11. Remove the oil pan.
  12. Clean the sealing surfaces on the pan, cylinder case and front cover. Make sure that the old RTV is removed from the blind attaching holes.

Installation Procedure

  1. Place a 2-mm diameter bead of GM P/N 12346286 (Canadian P/N 10953472) 23Loctite 5900 or equivalent to the oil pan sealing surface, except at the rear seal mounting surface.

  2. Object Number: 3827  Size: SH
  3. Using a new oil pan rear seal, apply a thin coat of GM P/N 12346286 (Canadian P/N 10953472) Loctite 5900 or equivalent on the ends down to the ears.

  4. Object Number: 3791  Size: SH
  5. Install the oil pan.
  6. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  7. Install the oil pan bolts.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  9. Install the oil pan nuts.
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the nuts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  11. Install the engine mount strut bracket. Refer to Engine Mount Strut Bracket Replacement .
  12. Install the starter. Refer to Starter Motor Replacement in Engine Electrical.
  13. Install the right engine splash shield.
  14. Install the right front tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  15. Lower the vehicle.
  16. Fill the crankcase with engine oil. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement .
