Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 492729  Size: SH
  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Bend the tang on the connector (1) to allow cable removal.
  3. Pull and hold the cable towards the rear of the car in order to create a slack in the cable.
  4. Remove the cable (2) from the connector (1).

  6. Remove the cable (1) from the axle bracket (2).

  7. Object Number: 171475  Size: SH
  8. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  9. Remove the brake drum. Refer to Brake Drum Replacement in Drum Brakes.
  10. Insert a screwdriver between the brake shoe and the lower part of the rear park brake lever (16).
  11. Remove the cable eyelet fitting from the rear park brake lever (16).
  12. Remove the conduit fitting from the backing plate (11) while depressing the retaining tabs.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the conduit fitting into the backing plate (11).
  2. Install the parking brake cable to the parking brake lever (16).
  3. Install the brake drum. Refer to Brake Drum Replacement in Drum Brakes.
  4. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.

  5. Object Number: 492734  Size: SH
  6. Install the cable (1) to the axle bracket (2).

  7. Object Number: 492729  Size: SH
  8. Connect the right rear cable (2) to the connector (1).
  9. Lower the vehicle.
  10. Notice: Parking brake adjustment is not necessary. This is a self adjusting system and damage may result from attempting to adjust or modify this system in any way. It may be necessary to adjust the rear brakes to obtain the proper tension in the system.

  11. Fully apply and release the hand brake 4-6 times in order to self adjust the system.
