Tools Required
    • J 6125-1B Slide Hammer
    • J 23129 Axle Seal Remover
    • J 28537  Bushing Installer/Remover
    • J 34115 Left Side Axle Seal Installer
    • J 8092  Driver Handle

Removal Procedure
  1. Remove the front fender liner. Refer to Front Fender Liner Replacement in Body Front End.
  2. Remove the drive axle. Refer to Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement in Wheel Drive Shafts.

    3. Object Number: 15902 Size: SH

    Important: Do not damage the seal bore.

  3. Remove the seals (117). Use the J 23129 and the J 6125-1B .

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 15906 Size: SH
  1. Install the new oil seals. Use the J 34115 .
  2. Lubricate the seal lip with a light wipe of transmission oil.

    3. Important: Carefully guide the axle shaft past the lip seal. Do not allow the shaft splines to contact any portion of the seal lip surface because damage may occur.

  3. Install the drive axle into the transmission case. Refer to Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement in Wheel Drive Shafts.
  4. Install the front fender liner. Refer to Front Fender Liner Replacement in Body Front End.
  5. Lower the vehicle.

    6. Notice: Do NOT overfill the transaxle. The overfilling of the transaxle causes foaming, loss of fluid, shift complaints, and possible damage to the transaxle.

  6. Fill the transmission to the proper level with DEXRON®-III oil. Refer to Transmission Fluid Check .
  7. Inspect the oil seal for leaks.
