Tail Lamp Replacement Pontiac

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 591040  Size: SH
  1. Pull back the rear compartment trim to access the tail lamp. Refer to Rear Compartment Trim Panel Replacement in Body Rear End.
  2. Disconnect the electrical connector from the tail lamp (3).
  3. Remove the bulb/socket from the tail lamp
  4. Remove the bulb from the socket, if required.
  5. Remove the nuts (2) from the tail lamp.
  6. Remove the tail lamp from the quarter panel.

Installation Procedure

    Notice: Note the correct routing of the electrical wiring. Failure to reinstall the wiring properly could result in damage to the wiring.

  1. Position the tail lamp to the quarter panel.
  2. Align the tail lamp to the rear compartment lid applique.
  3. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the nuts (2) to the tail lamp.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the tail lamps nuts to 6 N·m (53 lb in).

  6. Install the bulb to the socket, if required.
  7. Install the bulb/socket (3) to the tail lamp.
  8. Connect the electrical connector to the tail lamp (3).

Removal Procedure

  1. Pull back the rear compartment trim to access the tail lamp. Refer to Rear Compartment Trim Panel Replacement in Body Rear End.
  2. Disconnect the electrical connector (1) from the tail lamp.
  3. Remove the bulb/socket from the tail lamp.
  4. Remove the bulb from the socket, if required.
  5. Remove the nuts (2) from the tail lamp.
  6. Remove the tail lamp from the quarter panel.

  3. Install the tail lamp nuts (2) to the tail lamp.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the tail lamp nuts (2) to 5 N·m (44 lb in).

  5. Connect the electrical connector (1) to the tail lamp.
  6. Install the bulb to the socket, if required.
  7. Install the bulb /socket to the tail lamp.
  8. Pull back the rear compartment trim. Refer to Rear Compartment Trim Panel Replacement in Body Rear End.
