Did you perform the Radio/Audio System Diagnostic System Check?

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Turn ON the radio.
  3. Adjust the radio balance and fade controls to the center positions.

Can audio be heard from all speakers?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 3

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Remove and disconnect the radio connector.
  3. Test all speaker output circuits of the radio for a short to ground or a short to voltage. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 11

Is the vehicle equipped with an audio amplifier?

Go to Step 5

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the audio amplifier connector.
  3. Using two fused jumpers, connect a pair of speaker inputs to a pair of speaker outputs of the audio amplifier in order to bypass the audio amplifier.
  4. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  5. Turn ON the radio.
  6. Adjust the radio balance and fade to the connected speaker.

Does the speaker operate properly?

Go to Step 6

  1. Disconnect the audio amplifier connector.
  2. Test the battery positive voltage circuits of the audio amplifier for an open or short to ground.
  3. Test the ground circuits between the radio and audio amplifier for an open.
  4. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Go to Step 11

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the radio. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
