For 1990-2009 cars only
- Inspect the backing plate (659) for damage or cracks.
- Inspect the composition and clutch plates (658) for wear or heat stress. Replace the plates if necessary.
- Align the clutch waved plate (688) and the steel clutch plates (658) with the internal splines of the case before you install these plates into the case.
- Insert one low and reverse selective backing plate (659) into the case (15).
- Insert the clutch waved plate (688) into the case (15).
- Apply DEXRON-III™ automatic transmission fluid to the composition clutch plates (658) before assembly.
- Insert the clutch plates (658) into the case, starting with a composition plate, then alternating with a steel plate.
- Insert the remaining clutch waved plate (688).
- Insert the housing retainer ring (650) for the low and reverse clutch into the case.
