Brake Proportion Valve Replacement Non-ABS System
Caution: Refer to Brake Fluid Irritant Caution in the Preface section.
Notice: Refer to Brake Fluid Effects on Paint and Electrical Components Notice in the Preface section.
Removal Procedure
Important: Prior to disconnecting the brake pipes from the proportioning valve assembly,
note the locations of the brake pipes to the valve assembly, to aid during installation.
- Disconnect the caliper and wheel cylinder brake pipes (2) from the proportioning
valve assembly.
- Cap or plug the brake pipe ends to prevent brake fluid loss and contamination.
- Disconnect the master cylinder brake pipes (1) from the proportioning
valve assembly.
- Cap or plug the brake pipe ends to prevent brake fluid loss and contamination.
- Remove the master cylinder mounting nuts (1).
- Remove the proportioning valve assembly from the vehicle.
- If the proportioning valve is to be reused, plug the brake pipe openings
to prevent brake fluid loss and contamination.
Installation Procedure
- Remove the plugs from the proportioning
valve assembly.
- Install the proportioning valve assembly to the vehicle.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.
- Install the master cylinder mounting nuts (1).
Tighten
Tighten the nuts to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).
- Remove the caps or plugs from the master cylinder
brake pipe ends.
- Connect the master cylinder brake pipes (1) to the proportioning
valve assembly.
- Tighten the brake pipe fittings at the proportioning valve assembly.
Tighten
Tighten the fittings to 23 N·m (17 lb ft).
- Remove the caps or plugs from the caliper and wheel cylinder brake pipe
ends.
- Connect the caliper and wheel cylinder brake pipes (2) to the proportioning
valve assembly.
- Tighten the brake pipe fittings at the proportioning valve assembly.
Tighten
Tighten the fittings to 23 N·m (17 lb ft).
- Bleed the hydraulic brake system. Refer to
Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding
.
Brake Proportion Valve Replacement ABS System
Removal Procedure
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
- Using a backup wrench, disconnect the brake
lines (2) from the proportioning valves (1), and remove the valve
assemblies (1).
- Cap or plug the brake pipe ends to prevent brake fluid loss and contamination.
Installation Procedure
- Remove the caps or plugs from
the brake pipe ends.
- Install the proportioning valves (1).
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Connect the brake pipe fittings (2) at the in-line proportioning valves (1).
Tighten
Tighten the fittings to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).
- Bleed the hydraulic brake system. Refer to
Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding
