Removal Procedure

Caution: When carrying an undeployed inflator module:

   • Do not carry the inflator module by the wires or connector.
   • Make sure the air bag opening points away from you.
When storing an undeployed inflator module:
   • Make sure the air bag opening points away from the surface on which the inflator module rests.
   • Provide free space for the air bag to expand in case of an accidental deployment.
   • When storing a steering column, do not rest the column with the air bag opening facing down and the column vertical. Lay the column on its side.
Failure to observe these guidelines may result in personal injury.

  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling .
  2. Remove the I/P trim pad. Refer to Instrument Panel Trim Pad Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.

  3. Object Number: 202145  Size: SH
  4. Remove the air distributor duct. Refer to Air Distributor Duct Replacement in Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning.
  5. Remove the connector position assurance (CPA) from the inflatable restraint I/P module yellow 2-way pigtail connector.

  6. Object Number: 202147  Size: SH
  7. Disconnect the yellow 2-way pigtail connector from the inflatable restraint I/P module.

  8. Object Number: 202151  Size: SH
  9. Remove the mounting bolts (2) from the inflatable restraint I/P module (1).
  10. Remove the inflatable restraint module (1) from the I/P

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 202151  Size: SH
  1. Install the inflatable restraint module (1) to the I/P
  2. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  3. Install the mounting bolts (2) to the inflatable restraint module.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 5 N·m (44 lb in).

  5. Connect the yellow 2-way pigtail connector to the inflatable restraint module.

  6. Object Number: 202145  Size: SH
  7. Install the CPA to the yellow 2-way pigtail connector on the inflatable restraint module.
  8. Install the air distributor duct. Refer to Air Distributor Duct Replacement in Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning.
  9. Install the I/P trim pad. Refer to Instrument Panel Trim Pad Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.
  10. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling .
  11. Fully deploy the module before disposal. If the module was replaced under warranty, fully deploy and dispose of the module after the required retention period. Refer to Inflator Module Handling and Scrapping .
