Ignition Lock Cylinder Replacement Without Key

Removal Procedure

    Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Caution: Refer to SIR Caution in the Preface section.

  3. Disable the supplemental inflatable restraint system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling in SIR.
  4. Remove the steering column trim covers. Refer to Steering Column Trim Covers Replacement .

  5. Object Number: 491355  Size: SH
  6. Drill out the locking button (2) on the rear of the housing assembly (1) using an angle drill.

  7. Object Number: 564005  Size: SH
  8. Remove the ignition lock cylinder (1) by pulling outward from the steering column.
  9. Disconnect the electrical connector (2) from the ignition lock cylinder (1).
  10. Remove the metal shavings from the steering column and ignition lock housing assembly.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 491353  Size: SH

    Important: Ensure that all the metal shavings are cleaned from the steering column and ignition housing assembly.

  1. Connect the electrical connector (3) to the ignition lock cylinder (1).
  2. Insert the ignition lock cylinder (1) into the housing assembly while rotating the key approximately 5 degrees counter - clockwise.
  3. Install the steering column trim covers. Refer to Steering Column Trim Covers Replacement .
  4. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling in SIR.
  5. Connect the negative battery cable.
  6. Perform the Passlock Learn Procedure. Refer to Programming Theft Deterrent System Components in Theft Deterrent.

Ignition Lock Cylinder Replacement With Key

Removal Procedure

  6. Turn the ignition lock cylinder (1) to the RUN position.

  7. Object Number: 491355  Size: SH
  8. Push the locking button (2) on the rear of the housing assembly (1).
  9. Remove the ignition lock cylinder by pulling outward from the steering column.

  10. Object Number: 491353  Size: SH
  11. Disconnect the electrical connector (3) from the ignition lock cylinder (1).

Installation Procedure

  1. Connect the electrical connector (3) to the ignition lock cylinder (1).

  2. Object Number: 491355  Size: SH
  3. Insert the ignition lock cylinder into the housing assembly (1) while rotating the key approximately 5 degrees counterclockwise.
  4. Install the steering column trim covers. Refer to Steering Column Trim Covers Replacement .
  5. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling in SIR.
  6. Connect the negative battery cable.
  7. Perform the Passlock Learn Procedure. Refer to Programming Theft Deterrent System Components in Theft Deterrent.
